point deduction for each infraction.
 

Step 3) Create Rewards

 Merits4U™  was created because I lost an expected reward when someone did something more recently than I.  What the person did equated to a couple hours of work. But because it was the most recent activity it outweighed the dozens of hours I had invested over the previous weeks. 
It was a case of “What have you done for me lately?”

 Having not kept track of my “meritorious activities” (above and beyond my 
job description), I could not prove how badly I was being shafted 
so, lo and behold, the inspiration for Merits4U™.

 Merits4U™  can handle multiple Merit Groups so it can be used for business 
and personal performance appraisal.

 Merits4U™  is based on very simple principles of behavior management. 
To change any good or bad behavior you must identify and measure the amount of the 
activity that takes place.  Then, provide positive-reinforcement for the 
activity that you want to continue.

 I wrote several articles on Behavior Management including a Worker Motivation plan 
published in Services Magazine May 1994  I was trained in Behavior Management by 
Behavioral Systems Inc, a company owned by football great, Fran Tarkenton. 
I have 15 years software development experience - all of which gave me the 
background to produce Merits4U™.

Merits4U™ Rules!

MERITS & dMERITS 
1.  A Merit Activity is one that helps the Group but is not part of the Group Members Job Description.

2.  A Merit Activity is scored based on one point per hour and the maximum points for one Merit activity is 10.

3.  A Job Description Task unperformed is a dMerit.

4.  All prohibited activities are also dMerits.

5.  The Maximum dMerits for one instance are 40. - Equivalent to docking a Member 40 hours of Merits. If more dMerits are deserved, the situation probably calls for more discipline than this program can hand out.

SENIORITY EDGE
6. One point for each year of seniority can be added to the Group Members total score for whatever time period is being considered (Optional)

REWARDS  
7.  Two types of rewards should be available: 1) Rewards anyone can receive if they reach the required points – like a fast-food lunch.  2) One-of-a-kind rewards that can be chosen by the Member with the most points for the period covered – like a choice assignment.

 8.  The most important rule is, all the above rules can be changed by the User.
